I hope this makes sense, and I hope there are folks around who can help out.We have an existing house built in the 80s, and there's been one particular wall that always had flaky paint. Our kids loved sneakily peeling the paint off it, and it just peels clean away from the plaster. I suspect that the original builders/owners never used a sealer. Now, we are doing renovations and that unsealed?wall is a huge part of the reno job. Basically, we got a brickie to build a brick wall that bisects the unsealed?wall and a plasterer plastered over the bricks. This created two new smaller rooms instead of one big one. The plasterer also patched up some dings and gaps in the other walls that are involved. The plaster still isn't dry (15%), but there are shelves going up this week so I need to paint. My builder recommended a product that dries out the plaster, then use a sealer, then paint. When I bought the painting stuff I mentioned to the worker that one wall that I'm painting is possibly unsealed so I was going to peel the paint off to properly seal it. They recommended rolling water over the other walls to see if they were sealed - if they weren't, the paint would bubble and lift off just as easily. So I did that. The paint is a bit flaky but really hard to peel off. Instead of peeling off a long strip, I get a bit smaller than my little fingernail then there's nowhere to peel off the next bit.Does it sound like they are sealed? There was no bubbling at all. I don't know whether to just paint it, or try to sand off all the paint to the plaster and start again just to make sure. And I need to get this done quickly so the builder can do his next bit on schedule.Cheers! via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2EOZt1D
