Our back porch fell apart after being in the house for 8 years. The wood wasn't treated and the elements just tore it apart. The stair stringers started breaking along the grain and 3 steps in one week all broke.Time to replace all of it!This is where I'm at. The only thing I realized I'm not sure on is how best to seal the wood beneath where the door is. Lots of muddy and wet boots and paws will come through here and that wood was previously covered over by a single 2x8 and some liquid nails. There is an aluminum foot plate that goes over the top, it's just not visible. Didn't think about it until after.Should I leave it be? I'd LIKE to seal it with something thick and rubbery just to MAKE SURE. Hey, I fix networks for a living, not houses. Cut me some DIY slack! via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2JSra8s
