The completed photos only (24 Photos)The complete remodel minus final glamour photos (108 Photos)Three years ago my wife and I purchased a 1955 1,300 sq ft cape cod with a two car garage in a northeastern rustbelt city for 74k. It is a starter home as we want to head back out to the country eventually, but we wanted a dog and garden so we bought a house. The second floor was untouched since 1955. There was a bunch of stuff leftover from the old owners and we really did nothing with the upstairs the first year. We spent much of the first year taking care of the more essential things that needed to be done like building raised garden beds and jacking up the addition to fix a rotted sill plate among other things. Two years ago we decided to try to put the space to better use. I had a free energy audit done and learned of some options for the upstairs based on the non-soffited design of our house. After much contemplation and chatting with our neighbors we decided to go with a hot roof option of closed cell foam. It was by far our largest singular expense at $4,000 which also included the basement addition as well as a super thick vapor barrier. I would say that the price when all is said and done would be approximately $12,000 for everything. The only other thing that was hired out was carpeting which was $2,000. I love snowboarding, so I tried to give the environment a more tiny chalet cabin feel.Decoration is lacking as of now, but my wife and I are on our way to adding the final personalized touches. Thanks for looking and thanks for sharing. It is always great being inspired and learning from others posts. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2OEP20S
