Edit: I read the bill wrong. Not enough coffee yet. We are still probably underpaying, we only use 22.44(x100gal) per month. But not as bad as I had thought.
Original post: My husband and I have owned out house for 2 1/2 years, and we have all of our bills on auto pay. I know it's not the best, but TBH it's not the problem right now.
Since we moved in we have been paying $35ish per month on our water bill. It's along the lines of what we were paying in our last apartment, so it did not concern us.
We had someone move in with us last month, and I was reading over the bill for the first time since we moved in, and it looks like we have been charged for the exact same number of gallons every month for the last 24 months. I know we are pretty stingy with water use, we take short showers, hand wash dishes quickly, prefer to use the restroom at work when we get the chance. But it says we have only been using 100 gallons per month.
We had a plumbing leak a couple months ago and I caught a lot of the water in a five gallon bucket to water my house plants with, and I know we got about 10 gallons a day just from the leak, so 100/month seems incredibly low to me.
Is this something that can come back to bite us in the ass, with back billing and whatnot? Should I call the water company and ask them what is up, or wait to see if they never catch it? Is it normal for smaller towns to do this?
I haven't discussed it with my husband yet, he is still in bed, but he follows this sub too, so he might come across it.
