My husband and I (mostly me) never really paid attention to how we spent our money on utilities or household items until very recently (3 weeks). Since then, I have been shopping strategically for groceries and have implemented some money saving strategies for our utilities/household costs, specifically:
- Turning off the lights when we leave the room
- Installing water displacement bags in toilet tanks
- Using the water from our daughter's baths to flush the toilet
- Taking showers together
- Turning on the fan instead of running the AC colder
- Using the microwave instead of the oven
- Running full load in dishwasher and washing machine
- Using laundry ball instead of detergent
- Unplugging things or turning off surge protector when not in use
- Closing the shades
- Using wash cloths instead of paper towels
- Washing dishes by hand in the sink without the water constantly running
- Timing showers
- Stop going to Starbucks for coffee (was spending $45+/month)
- Using ground coffee in Keurig filter rather than disposable
- Using powder creamer instead of liquid
Are there any other small, easy things that we can do to save a buck? We have not gotten our most recent utility bill yet, so I am not sure how well these strategies have paid off.
