Hi everyone! Long time casual observer, first time poster. Super brief background: I've been in construction since I was 15, concrete - foundations and floors, stamped and decorative as well. Today's question is about a deck that I'm building. I can't seem to find anything about the layout of a beam anywhere. The deck is 14' from the ground and I live in Newfoundland right on the water, so winds of 100+ kmph aren't uncommon. I'm using 8x8 posts with a triple 2x12 beam notched into the 8x8. All structural screwed together with GRK and Simpson Strong-Tie. The deck is 20' wide x 14' off the house. I plan on putting the beam at 12' using 2x10 joists.My question, however, is related to the beam design/ style. I just free-handed a drawing to attach. I can't figure out which would be better and/ or why you see both. I'll be using 6x6 knee braces at least 2' long off every post as well.Thank you in advance! via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2Mij4Gx
