As the title states; I am a single parent to three young children. I became a single parent when my Fiance passed away suddenly in a motorcycle accident in 2016. I was pregnant with our daughter at the time. Since then, we have moved in with my parents and in the process I've been forced to give up almost all of my personal possessions. Since we were unmarried, his brother (only family in the United States) was able to legally claim all of his belongings. Everything in his checking accounts, savings, and business accounts, among all of his property from his business as well. The vehicle that I was driving was in my Fiance's name and that was confiscated by his brother. Finding work has been incredibly hard where I'm at. I do not have open availability because I do not have transportation. My mother has been gracious enough to allow me to use her car to go to work when she get's off. Even though I earned a Bachelor's degree in Business, I am stuck working 3rd shift in warehouses for nothing more than $13/hr, which is what I've done for the past two years. The jobs are not always a reliable source of income since they have been through temp agencies and I frequently get laid off. Here is a brief overview of my current finances: I have $30 in checking. $0 savings $200 available in credit on a $2,500 card w/25% interest. $100 available in credit on a $500 card w/25% interest. Currently, $35,000 in debt w/SallieMae I'm unsure of interest. I have about 2 other accounts in collections for student loans approx. $5,000 in total. My mother recently had a job transfer to another state so I'm out of work. I have limited income. $290 for my son for survivor's benefits. $290 for child support for my oldest daughter. (Since I was unmarried and he obliviously wasn't present for the birth to sign the birth certificate, he is not listed. I am unable to receive any SS for her until I get a petition from a judge to have him listed. I already got a DNA, our son was tested to show relation of my youngest daughter to my Fiance. Lawyer's have been expensive so I've yet to had a chance to get any ruling so I can file for SS on her behalf.) I'm just tired of living this life. I want to buy my kids new shoes for once, for them to have their own bed and room. I want to have a meaningful career and have income that I can pay my bills, invest money, take care of my children. How do I get out of this? Is it even possible? Has anyone here or anyone you know been able to get themselves and their children out of poverty?
