Hi r/personalfinance, I've come into a real bad situation.
I am a 26 year old guy working freelance with public relations for a company, which I have done for three years now. The way that I am working is taking on projects and then I will invoice that amount. I started working there as I became friends with the one owning the company first, whereafter he hired me.
However, he (the company) managed to build up a debt while I was working here and therefore I have come behind on payments. A lot behind. The reason I did this was because my employer explained to me the bills from taxes and former co-workers and therefore I tried to be understanding and figured I wouldn't mind if all those payments just came back to me eventually and that I had enough to go by.
I have been very stupid and naive to let this go on for too long. And I am now 6 months behind on payments. It is starting to really worry me and now that I plan on going in new directions, I really want the money I've earned or at least the payments to roll in faster than before. I am also getting a bit worried if I will actually get everything paid at all. And yes, I have been very stupid that I have not made a contract. How would that help me if I get that done asap?
What are my options to take action to make sure I get paid?
Really hoping for your help!
