My husband and I have an adorable 5 month old son and are currently shifting to a more simple life. I’m a SAHM and have been downsizing our things during the day to help avoid the feeling of it being overwhelming, but I always get stuck when it comes to pairing down the baby’s things. My husband and I were unfortunately raised pretty materialistically and I’m having trouble stopping the cycle of buying lots of “stuff” for him.

Another huuuuuuge issue is how much stuff the grandparents want to buy him. His birthday is 12/30 so he’s going to get dumped with gifts all at once if we’re not careful. We want to follow the “something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read,” gift giving when these things start applying, but what kind of suggestions can we give our parents? Wooden toys? He has 200+ books already.

Someone please share with me your experiences on simpler living with kids!
