I am having an issues working through a problem. I need to get from one city to another (in the Midwest) and timing wise, renting a car might be my only option (explored busing/vaning). Once I arrive in the city, I will have no need for the vehicle but will need it to return to my original location.
My two current options (and turning to the collective frugal mind to help me think of a third) are to 1. rent the vehicle for the entire six days of the trip (total cost approx. $250) or 2. rent the for two one way trips (total cost approx. $260 due to the 'drop-off in a different location' fee each leg of the trip).
I've called several of the major companies and none have been willing to rent me the vehicle for the two days needed and wave the 'drop-off in a different location' fee with the understanding that the car will make it back to its original location.
Any ideas?
