I essentially ignored calls from my credit union in March because I assumed they were calling about increased usage on my current card due to upcoming wedding expenses. Assuming this, and knowing that I'll be able to pay it off completely soon, I didn't have a sense of urgency in talking with them soon enough.
To be fair, I did call them back twice to no avail, but left no voicemails because I didn't feel like it, you know? Once they got ahold of me, they told me I had a $5 charge from my parcel locker at my apartment complex on my original card that turned into a $10 charge due to non-payment. I told them I figured they were calling about increased usage, they said no, pay us, and congratulated me on my wedding. Funny anecdote.
Soon after, I received an email from Credit Karma telling me that my score had decreased by FIFTY GOSH DANG POINTS.
So now I'm wondering if there's some kind of courtesy that the major credit unions can give me as a one-off. I also wonder if a $10 charge normally necessitates such a drastic score decrease? Has this happened to anyone else? If so, what did you do in this situation?
I hope you guys and girls can grace me with your infinite financial knowledge. Thanks!
