I just realized yesterday. I never finish my entire pot of coffee I always a little left maybe a cup or less, that I dump down the drain with the used grounds.
I have started re using that dark sludge that has been sitting for 12 hours. I now only have to add two scoops of coffee grounds instead of three or four to the press and get a much darker and rich flavor.
I am adding boiling water to it so I do not worry at all about day old coffee.
