Here's the thing my family is in the rebuilt car business so I have access to salvage title cars for a fraction of the MSRP price, and getting parts is super cheap for me. I currently own a luxury sports car that I want to sell as I'm tired of paying for premium gas and getting 14mpg, and being worried about every ding and scratch. My insurance is $180 a month. I also don't drive much as I've only put 17k miles on it in the 4 years I have owned it. A $1000-4000 part would cost me $200-800. While a $400-1000 part for a cheap car would cost me $50-400. Knowing this, what's the cheapest car to own? Insurance cost, MPG, and maintenance. I was considering a subaru crosstrek, but I have bad experiences with subarus always breaking down mechanically. Maybe a mazda cx-5? Additionally, car would ideally have parking sensors or a backup camera available as a package.
