TL:DR My dad came to visit me from Italy and we decided to build something together. This is the result: http://ift.tt/2Cdyi9X VERSION: I'm an Italian expat currently living in Australia. When I was in Italy I used to spend loads of time with my dad playing, building, skying, riding bikes... you mention, we probably did. In 2006 I moved away from Italy as the work situation there was rubbish and after a bit here and there, in 2013 I landed in Australia. Of all the places I could live, let's say that Australia is the further away from Italy (26 hour journey) but we try to see each other at least once a year. When my dad comes here, we always try to do something we can remember and this year, we decided it would be fun to build a fire pit for my house. My dad is pretty good handy man while I work in gaming so let's say I'm not great with hand work. On top of that, this year, 2 weeks before he arrived, I broke my arm skating. But, a mission is a mission so we decided to look for instructions online and found this: http://ift.tt/2Ekcfoe did some drawing on a computer (which ultimately were useless), bought some second hands bricks, some cool refractory bricks, some cement and we started. Choosing the position of the bricks was actually the funnest part where we layered bricks for couple of hours in different position to see which brick position looked the best with the existing bricks in the garden.Long story short, we did it, we still need to build the grill for a sweep BBQ but the fire is strong and keeps the heat forever!!!Ah, my son also helped a little so it was a 3 generation project :)This is a project my dad and I (and hopefully my son) will remember forever! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2CdkWKZ
