I see tons of chromebook or dell latitude self-refurb strategies here so I thought I'd list something for the power-users out there that have hit some rougher financial times (not for gamers, this is just a setup that's very fast and very good at multitasking with multi-monitors).
I found on ebay several off-lease desktops with really appealing deals. The one that stuck out to me was $150 and had:
-
i5-3450
-
16gb ddr3
-
1tb hdd
SO I combined that with:
-
$50 SSD
-
two $50 1080p monitors refurbs I found on craigslist
-
Fedora + XFCE4
the result is an amazing workstation with dual 1080p monitors that I'm using for game-development and other power-usery things.
If you need a cheap station for coding, web development, or any other kind of work I'd highly recommend this as a budget option. I know for programming at least two monitors is NOT a luxury it's absolutely a necessity.
