About to start a job getting £21K a year. What's the best way to build credit and start saving ?

So little bit of background.

  • I have no children.
  • I live at home still.
  • My parents want some sort of money but would be fine if I didn't give them any money or at least £200-250 a month unless I have a solid saving plan.
  • I'd like to buy a flat while still living here in a near by city for when I eventually move out.
  • I have student loans of £4k.
  • I live in rural Scotland.

Any advice would be grand.
