Just a general question about running numbers. I wanted to see how much money I would have after 15 years of investing $400 a month at 12% into a mutual fund. I started with my current balance at zero and got a number. But I actually have 100K in my mutual fund, so if I plug that number into the starting balance field the result is astronomically bigger. Why would that be the case? I’m trying to see the value of what happens if I started investing now. Why should it matter that I have dollars in an account currently.
