My fiance and I have received bad news that his cancer is likely terminal. I would like us to get married before he passes, but he is worried thaf, if we get married, I would assume his credit card debt that he had accumulated during a rough few years. We are Georgia residents if it varies by state at all.

What happens with credit card debt when one spouse passes, but the debt was accumulated prior to marriage? What about student loans in his name? The house he also purchased on his own, what would happen with that if he is still paying it off?

I feel overwhelmed without a ton of time and wish we could get married without having to be concerned about this, but I understand the practical concerns. I appreciate any help.
