I'm a new investor, and I'm getting started with Vanguard. Mostly starting with mutual funds. I don't have a ton of time to research specific companies. My question is, it appears stock prices are high. Even though we never truly know when the market will drop, if it dropped tomorrow by 50%, does that mean my investments at the time are now valued at that price? When the stock market does come back up, do I make any additional earnings off of it coming back up, or does it have to increase above the original price that I paid for the mutual fund investment for me to make any earnings?
