Okay, I'm doing this for my mother without any guidance at all or any father-like role models or friends to assist me, so please be patient with me. She doesn't speak english very well and I'm all she has for support, but this is very difficult for me to understand on my own. We have no other family. This is it. (Syrian Problems, enough said).

I'm 29 and am trying to focus on moving forward with my life but I can't assist my mom if I can barely assist myself at the time being, due to other major problems which are irrelevant to this situation.

Anyway, let's get started.

This is in Illinois.

My mother was employed by 2 local school districts and worked as a Lunch Monitor for kids during Recess. The other job was being appointed to a special needs student as a Bus Aide/Monitor starting from Elementary and then to the next School District when she moved up to High School.

The lunch mom job is 1 hour a day and the Bus Aide job is roughly 4 hours a day, totaling roughly 24 hours a week.

The bus aide job was divided into two districts, one being an elementary school and then high school, when the student she cared for on the bus reached high school.

She was laid off this past June from one of the jobs.. The Bus Aide job, due to the student moving out of state. This was her primary source of income, due to more hours obviously. We immediately filed her for unemployment benefits and initially, she was approved, but then a week following approval, was deemed ineligible due to one little detail..

On the unemployment form, there is a question that asks, "Will you be expected to return to your job at the school after the summer season?" And we had answered "Yes, but for only 1 hour a day as a Lunch Monitor at the Elementary District".

Due to that, she was deemed ineligible even after appealing.. even when she said she wanted her benefits for the primary job she was laid off for. Her decision in mind was to look for a job equal to or better in terms of hours, like her bus aide job and she was hoping to earn unemployment benefits during that time-frame, like she was initially approved for.

Now, after waiting so long for a 2nd appeal and being denied yet again, she started her Lunch Monitor job at the end of August, but quit because it wasn't worth her time. Again, 5 hours a week? Laughable. After Deductions, that's barely $60 a week.

She is still missing benefits from her primary job and keeps getting denied, appeal after appeal.

Her most recent denial was after visiting the office and re-applying for benefits again, getting approved yet AGAIN and then DENIED AGAIN a following week later... This time, the ineligibility reason they gave her was, "You worked for a week from this day to this day and you voluntarily quit"

What about the benefits from her 20 hour a week Bus Aide job that she worked for 14 years and was laid off from?!

I'm so confused and watching her tear herself apart, trying to figure this out day by day at home. She is unable to drive due to severe anxiety (she walked to work and got picked up), has a heart condition and my slack ass father, who has been unemployed OVER A DECADE only makes money through Uber to BARELY make enough to get by and help her. He's never really around to help anyway, thus why I'm here and looking for mature advice. They both live in a 2 bedroom apartment and are getting by just barely on uber paychecks (what... 10k a year if that?) and that's just not going to last long.

My dad is planning on looking for a lawyer to try and sue whoever would be responsible for this.. (not sure that will work out or if it'll even be worth it, but then again I have no idea how this works)
