Hi /r/investing, I'm interested in advice on how to make an idea of a lifestyle into a reality.
I'm close friends with many professional artists in my city, and would like to fund projects that make me money on the side, and empower my friends to more deeply pursue their art.
I'm unmarried and have no kids, and am under, but close to, 30.
I'm getting my real estate license in CA in a few weeks. I have a job after I receive my license working for a friend's mom, who has been a successful broker for about fifteen years. I'm aware of, and realistic about, the ups and downs of the profession. However, her brokerage is doing well. I expect to do well within it (by my low standards, anyway).
I currently work part time as one of the managers of a local coffee shop and make enough there to cover my living expenses, which are about $1000 a month, including rent, bills, and food.
As real estate commissions begin to come in, I expect to step down my responsibilities at the coffee shop. I want to take the extra money - money above living expenses and savings - I expect to earn in real estate and put it to work in various side hustles and odd jobs. Not to get rich, but to really enjoy myself, and see a return for myself and my community. I want to have fun with it.
I'm interested in music, art, mushrooms (culinary, not the psychadelic ones), as well as merchandise. I have a company that sells enamel pins for the coffee shop I work at that I plan to expand as money allows.
Additionally, I'm drawn to event planning, small-scale manufacturing, coffee roasting, gardening, cycling and outdoor fitness, and eclectic men's fashion.
If anyone has suggestions or resources to point me to, I'd really appreciate help. I see potential here but I don't want to be an idiot about things. I know that this is going to be very hit-or-miss, but the uncertainty excites me and the unusual routine is exactly what I want.
Thank you for taking the time to read this! Any help is greatly appreciated.
