Should I become an Equity Analyst, maybe look into investment banking?
Some background: I have a degree in finance from a state school. I have been working as a Financial Advisor for the past two years out of college. I am in the process of pursuing the CFP, and have passed Level 1 of the CFA (during my senior year of undergrad).
What it really comes down to is this: I am definitely a people person, I enjoy working as a team and working with clients, but what I am NOT is a salesman. Servicing the book of business? Great. Leading instructional seminars and presentations? Awesome. Trying to sell to new clients or propose some product? No way. I just don't find passion or drive when I'm selling.
In addition, I truly miss the intellectual challenges of college in the form of research and learning. It feels like for the past years my days are only focused on helping small pop-up issues with individuals, and not learning a specific trade/idea/concept.
Essentially, what I'm looking for is this:
What will my daily life be like in an analyst/research-oriented role?
Am I a good fit for the role, or is there some requirements to become successful there such as coming from an Ivy school or having a more specific background?
Are there any alternatives that I should consider in finance that will allow me to be challenged intellectually and also avoid most forms of being a salesperson?
