I've been at my current job for 10 years plus, I've never asked for a raise. My boss incrementally just tacks on raises to our salary when he feels like it. I'm making just under double what my salary was when I started. I feel like with my experience and being a huge asset to this small company, that profits easily several millions per year, that I deserve more pay. This is a company that has less than 15 employees at any given time.
I might also add that the owner of the company has recently passed away and ownership now lies with his son in law which has been the president of the company for many many years. The owner hasn't been in the picture much since I started, so his son in law has been my boss for 10 years.
There's only one co-worker of mine that shares the same title as me and he just became semi-retired. He only works half day every day. So now, more than ever, I have virtually double the responsibility. He's so old he can't pull his own weight anymore, so I take care of all the responsibilities.
Mostly I'm scared of asking for a raise because of being fired or looked down on for wanting more pay. I'm sure neither of these things would happen, but they are what stops me.
