I joined a 15 member tech startup and report to a founder who oversees technology-related functions (the others being sales, finance, HR) but does not come from a technology background. I was to manage their core product and started off on one major project.
Immediately, I started to observe cracks - there were non-cooperative team members, lack of a process to develop the technology, mis-synchronisation between sales promises and ability to deliver, and communication issues. When I highlighted these to him, my manager (and the founder)'s response to all of these was on the lines of (a) Ok, we'll see; (b) I'll tell him; (c) Figure it out / You just do it. However, the problems persisted. I also got the impression of him shifting goal posts. It was evident that the original timeline imagined was unrealistic given all these issues.
Nevertheless, I got the team to deliver the major project with good quality and time, especially true given the support I received internally. As soon as this was done, I noticed my manager including me on lesser tasks.
I smell something fishy. This is my only source of income. I took up this job to gain the experience, not for the money - which also means that I have taken a pay cut. To complicate further, the job market in my country - especially tech - is depressed. What do you suggest I do?
