please excuse me if this post sounds immature, i'm new to all of this and none of this makes sense to me.
i graduated high school 2 years ago and ive been working 20 hours a week at a deli but i want to move out now and grow up.
i'm looking at apartments and the cheapest 1bedrooom in my area that is not complete dump is 700$.
even if i worked 40 hours a week (making 11,136 after taxes), the cheapest apartment in my area would be 75% of my income. i wouldnt have enough for a car, food or anything else.
how are people living on minimum wage?
and how come when i job search i ONLY see minimum wage jobs for hire? and they all get filled too. who is working these jobs and how are they living?
it takes me about 6 interviews and 30 applications to score a minimum wage job.
how am i ever going to score a job that makes enough to live without the possibility of going homeless or hungry? it seems like its almost impossible.
i have no idea what to do, i cant find jobs on indeed that pay enough to live. there are some warehouse jobs in the city but i have a feeling i would be competing with 50 other experienced men in their 30s that will get hired over me, so whats the point.
am i going to have to be one of those people that work 80 hours a week at a restaurant?
