Hi Reddit. So I moved into a new apartment about 3 years ago. A couple days after moving in I noticed there were roaches everywhere. When I complained the maintenance people put roach gel and sprayed/bombed the place (this happened multiple times and pretty much didn't do anything.) I realized that it didn't matter how well kept my home was or how many times they bombed it because as long as my neighbors' homes have roaches they will come into my home since we're all connected. After a few tenants complained at the same time (the problem was really bad at this point) they did a mandatory bomb on every home. This cleared up the roaches for a year almost. Now I have a newborn baby. I have seen three roaches in the past week and I am freaking out because that means there must buy hundreds more. I don't wanna go through the process of repeatedly getting the house sprayed or bombed bc I feel the poison will not be safe for my child and it will get on a lot of his things. I would also like to add that the roaches have also had a mental health impact on me. I basically would starve for days because I was too afraid to touch anything in my kitchen with the fear that a roach might appear out from underneath. I have a real fear of these things. Just saw one today and had a complete breakdown and I'm still shaking. Only now my fear and anxiety has doubled bc I'm worried they will get near my son or on his things. So my question is, is there anything I can do to get the landlords to give me another apartment in the same complex? When I asked them they said I would have to pay the new move in price which is a few hundred more than what I am paying now. I would have moved but this is what I can afford and when I find another apartment in my range it usually has roach problems as well (according to their reviews) My limit is $1300 and I'm in NJ. The reason I would prefer to just be moved to a different apartment in the same complex is because I know people who have lived in these apartments for years and never seen a cockroach.. it's really only a big problem in the 5-6 apartments surrounding mine. (The complex is pretty large with many buildings.)

Sorry for the long post I just wanted you to know all my details. Is there anything I can do to convince the landlord to let me switch apartments? Or if there are better options please someone tell me.
