Hi DIY! We just moved to a new house, and of course I immediately have tons of projects in mind. A simple one that we can tackle in a day is removing the carpeting in the built in "pocket office" and laying down laminate flooring for durability.I've done a floating installation before in a 10x12 room and it went well. I pulled the baseboards and reinstalled them over the expansion gap around the perimeter. That was with engineered wood. The pocket office is small, about 4x8'. I'm wondering if this is small enough that I might be able to get away with doing a floating floor, but with no or minimal expansion gap. Basically I'd butt up against one baseboard (the more visible side), and leave a tiny gap to the other side's baseboard, just enough to let the laminate click and lay down. This "no gap" length would be along the longer side and be parallel to the long edge of the boards (so it'd only ever expand over a 4' distance). The long side (8'), would be allowed to expand since it comes up to carpet, though on the wall side I'd bring it right up to the baseboard.I could even lay a line of finishing caulk on top of the 1/8" or so gap that would remain. The laminate is the stuff they sell at Sam's club. Would appreciate any advice!! via /r/DIY http://ift.tt/2qNS7zb
