I'm 24 years old, and I have a credit score of 640-650 across all three credit bureaus. So far I have been building my credit entirely on one auto loan I applied for over a year ago ($6,700 left to pay). This loan is the only account I have on my credit reports, I have nothing in collections, nothing past due, etc.
I have never had a credit card before, and my stepmother taught me that you should use one with this mindset: "Only use a credit card if you can afford it with your own money RIGHT NOW, not next week."
I need to build my credit, and I was thinking about getting a credit card and putting all of my monthly expenses on it and paying them all off immediately with my own money.
Would it make sense to apply for one and use it this way to build credit?
