I've had an iPhone 5s for a few years now, and while it's still going fairly strong I can feel it getting slower as the new updates roll out. My macbook pro from 2010 is also hitting the end of it's life according to the battery, though I plan to keep it until it truly can't keep up.
Right now I'm on my parents' family plan with Verizon and they don't as me to pay anything. I want to, but the budget is tight and so I don't.
If I were to get a cheap android phone or something and go with a MVNO carrier like Republic Wireless or Red Pocket Mobile or something, became more disciplined with data usage, and then just picked up an iPad for around the home or on the go browsing via wifi, do you think I could come out ahead (edit:) and would it benefit my parents?
I realize that's a bit of an upfront investment, and I would be budgeting for it (instead of the new computer). But are the savings there if I bought a refurbished, current gen iPad (whenever I buy it) to use as my netflix/browsing/social media/notes and lists machine and used the phone just for phone stuff? Then the laptop would be a documents and word processor basically.
Has anyone tried something like this?
