Hi all. I'm going through a divorce, in Michigan, in which my wife will keep the house, buying me out of it after a refinance. I'm going to be starting over, and while I cannot downsize past a 2-bedroom apartment (because we have a son, and he needs his own space when staying with me), I'm looking for inexpensive manners of getting the following:

First and foremost will be the new dwelling. Should I be renting a house or an apartment? Based on the need for two bedrooms, a house might be a better bet. I do not have the credit to purchase at this time, so rent it is. If house, do I just use Craigslist, or is there a better way? As for Apartments, I have searches saved on apartments.com, but am I getting the best look at the best places?

1.) Queen Mattress/Box Spring -- I have an old frame, but need something to put on it 2.) Dressers/Storage for clothing -- both me and the little guy 3.) Cooking Essentials -- a few pans, pots, a baking dish, etc. Toaster, microwave. Seasonings. 4.) TV/Internet -- nothing fancy, but I do need my kid to be able to watch Little Einsteins once in a while. If there is a secret to cable/internet that greatly reduces the cost, please share it. I have a laptop, chromecast, and can easily open my netflix account back up.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Also, please don't say sorry that I'm getting a divorce. It sucks that I lost my love but I need to scrape together what I can and start over.
