My principal recently informed me my contract won't be renewed for next year. District is giving me the option to resign so I "won't have a termination on record." Won't this ruin my chances of getting unemployment during the summer?

Principal told me he thinks I'm a good teacher, they just won't need me next year as Spanish enrollment will be down since they plan to offer other languages. They tell me if I resign I won't have to say I was terminated since that is a required question everywhere I might apply. Should I resign? I'm really worried about screwing myself over for unemployment benefits should it take me a while to find a new job. My contract has a strict start and end date, so aren't they just not giving me a new contract instead of firing me?
