Hello. As the title states, I have a bit of a pickle.
I have $100k in debt. Breakdown is $10k CC, $10k private loans, $80k student loans.
I live in Japan and have for the past three years. Six months ago, I made a pretty stupid decision and picked a girlfriend over my finances. Fast forward to today, and I have family members getting collection calls and I have all my accounts closed that I use, so I do not even have a way to wire money directly to my accounts!
I have two questions:
-
Does living in a foreign country provide me with legal protection from my debts? I am aware I might have to refer to r/legaladvice, but I assume someone here knowledgeable about debt might be a better source. If the answer to the above is yes, then what are the possible repercussions to doing so?

Currently, my make-up amount to just zero out my balances to where I can re-open my accounts and use them again are sitting at $3k, and grows monthly. I make only $1200/mo, and that is on a good month (I am paid daily at my current job in Japan, hence the fluctuation). So in short, I am also upside-down on my debts too. If it turns out that question #1 is a no, then what honestly is my best option(s)? Thank you for your time.
