New to Reddit - not sure if I'm posting this to the correct spot. I am 31, married, one son who is a year and a half old, and pregnant with the second (due in 5 months). Husband and I have been house hunting in Columbus, OH for about 6 months, can't find anything we love, yet still have lost out on two separate properties in bidding wars. The market is a little insane. Some background: I make just under 60k/year and husband stays home with son to save on daycare cost. He works on the weekend for extra income. We are almost debt free - recently had to buy a used car with modest monthly payment. We've rented our current place for 5 years and pay $815. Every monthly bill accounted for totals $1400/month. We stick to a weekly menu, grocery shop at Aldi, and rarely eat out. We can't find a house in a good school district (that doesn't get swooped up in 24 hours) for less than $200,000. I don't want to be house poor... considering we save a considerable amount each month where we live. My commute to work is about 6 minutes (Clintonville). I feel pressure from my family to purchase a home but should I just be happy renting for the time being? My family thinks I should purchase because that's what married 30-something couples do. Taxes in the good school districts are a little ridiculous as well.
