Hello personalfinance!

I was hoping ya'll could help me out with some questions regarding taxes because I'm trying to sort it all out now.

This is the first year I worked and made income as a self-employed independent contractor. I freelanced as a graphic designer for a company for about five months where I made $18,490 in section 7 under nonemployee compensation (everything else on the 1099-MISC form is $0). In addition to this, I worked as a landscaper for 2-3 months as a W-2 employee making $12.50 an hour. I don't know if this matters at all, and I've yet to get my W-2 form from this employer.

So... Where do I start? I was looking into the $89.99 Self Employed Turbo Tax (http://ift.tt/2gPfPJz) because it seems fit for the job, but I'm unsure about spending $89.99. This is especially the case when I have no clue how any of this works!

Is there a better software/website to use? I understand I have the potential to list my expenses/deductions. Off the top of my head I... traveled 2 hours/50 miles total (to and from work) each day, bought a new graphics card and ssd to help myself on the days I did, can, and will work from home, and uh... I think those are the major ones... Do car repairs count such as new tires? What can I actually list? And furthermore... what do I exactly need to do!? I think I made a mistake and didn't keep receipts (at least for the gas/car-related things, I never take receipts for those, but they do show on my online bank account if that matters).

And... I guess that's all I really have on my mind, or rather what I need help with... So basically.... tl;dr: 1. first time filing self employed as an independent contractor 2. made 18k as an independent, but I also worked 2-3 months as a W-2 employee for another employer in the beginning of the year where I probably made less than 2-3 grand 3. What the fudge do I do? I'm so lost! I don't mind paying $89.99 if it's the right thing to do 4. also, if it matters, I no longer work freelance for this employer as we ended our contract a week or two ago so currently I'm unemployed
