I am a 23 year old healthy (albeit a bit blind) and insured female in the US, however, my father's health insurance plan does not cover any sort of annual eye exam or vision care.

I am on my last pair of contacts and they are getting quite old and uncomfortable to wear for any amount of time, and my one pair of glasses are scratched, unsightly, and do not fit properly. So my situation will be getting pretty blurry and unsafe very soon :( My last prescription was written about 18 months ago and is now invalid.

How does one get an eye exam without insurance? I am most worried about the initial exam cost and buying contacts. Are there programs or clinics in the state of Kansas that could help? I have googled but could not find anything beyond the New Eyes for the Needy program that provides financial help with glasses only. :(

I plan on getting low cost glasses at that Zenna website, as I have heard good things about them. However, I still would like the option of contacts. Due to my astigmatism my contacts are pretty pricey, even when I had vision insurance. Is there any hope for a poor girl to get some new contacts and glasses?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!!
