My trash collection company has had a rough time through covid and has stopped coming regularly. No problem, so I sign up for a new company and try to cancel... except you have to call to cancel. I've called them half a dozen times, the call either goes straight to a "we're sorry we are too busy right now" message or you wait forever on hold. I have tried contacting them via email, and contacting them through their facebook app, instructing that I want to cancel, but nobody ever responds.

I'm fairly sure if I just stop paying them they will send me to collections, right? What about paying them (its a recurring payment setup through them) and then disputing the charge? What other options should I be investigating?
