Morning,
Currently have no debt, no rent (live with sibling in a family owned property), working in Fire/EMS pulling in about 47k without overtime. I live in a place I really am ready to leave but I got offered a job at a large suburban department 1 hour away that will increase my wage to about 60k a year without OT. I also have a job offer to work wildfires as medical support that pulls in about 600 a day for 14-21 days on assignments. This would also require me to live in my car when I'm not camping in a tent while on assignment. The only concern about this job is the availability of work assignments (although this wildfire season looks to be busy).
I'm trying to figure out if it would be a better option to stay where I am with my minimal expenses and just pick up a second/third job and save up a ton of money over the next 8 months or go ahead and work the wildfire season (also minimal expenses as I'd be on job site for most of the month or in my car) hopefully saving up enough to finally move to where I want to be.
I narrowed down where I want to go to 3 places (visited earlier in the year to meet employers) and the jobs are there if I go. My main issue is the housing market sucks in all three. I have seen some decent listings but they run (at the low end) 240-280k and up through 350k. I figure if I stay and work I could save up another 20-40k over the next year. The real dream would be to get an acre or a few and just put a tiny house down but even then I would require even more up front principal to put down for land and a small house in all of those areas.
TLDR: 15k in savings, no debt, no rent, investing 200 a month into a mutual fund with 18.6% returns. Two job offers, one is 60k a year without OT, one is 600 per diem depending on assignments. Would like to save up 50k before I try to move. Should I stay where I am (pick up another job or two as well) and save up or try to work the contracting job and move sooner? Any other advice would be appreciated too.
