Back in Sep 2020, I was jobless and I had to borrow 5,000 EUR to basically surive. I had 0 in savings. Luckily I landed a job at a warehouse which paid 2,000 EUR per month. I had something although I did not get standard hours from the warehouse.
From October to February I did nothing but workinf and going home. Luckily I could eat at the warehouse cantine and the food there was cheap. I was paying around 200 EUR per week to my debtors.
I had some bumps along the way like my credit card being blocked. It might not seem the end of the world for most of you but when you have budgeted EVERY single euro/dollar or whatever then every small change counts. I felt that. On the other hand, every payment towards my debt made me feel a bit better.
End of Feb, I have managed to pay down 3,000 EUR of my debt. In the meanwhile, I was in talks with a company for an analyst position, which is basically what I did before all this COVID situation started.
I had to pass 4 rounds of interviews but FINALLY, after almost 1.5 years being out of a corporate environment I managed to get the job!
The pay is 50,000 EUR per year which is almost twice as much as I make now. Now I have the means to pay my remaining 2,000 EUR debt and finally take a huge breath.
My plan is to continue living like a pauper. Not until a specific date. In general. I have had so much fun all these years, having traveled around the world and basically spending money like crazy.
But when shit hit the fun (COVID) I had nothing. It only took 6 months of unemployment to wipe away all my savings and to basically put me in debt.
I have definitely learned my lesson and from now on I refuse to put myself in the same situation.
Cheers!!
