Back at the end of June, my husband and I were heading back home from a trip and decided to book an Airbnb. The booking was confirmed and the money deducted from my account. $130. About an hour away from the destination, the host messages me through the app saying that he has contracted covid and we can't stay there. He says to cancel and he hopes I can get a refund. I go to the cancelation page and it states to not cancel on my end if the host had to cancel. I message the host back saying that he needs to cancel from his end so that I can get a full refund.

The man is sick, so I didn't plan on worrying about it until we got home a couple of days later. We get home, and he still hasn't canceled the reservation. The money is still pending in my account, so I decided to wait to see if it fully went through. A few days later, it did. I tried to contact the man again and he still didn't answer. I decided to get ahold of Airbnb. Big mistake. Their customer service is practically non-existent. First I went through their app and waited a few days. No response. Then I called them. I sat on hold for three hours before I finally gave up.

I have disputed it with my bank, but the lady I talked to doesn't think it'll go through since I willingly gave Airbnb my debit card info. I'm currently waiting on the decision for that. It's been about a month now and I got on the app to see if anything had been done. There was a message asking if the issue was resolved. I never received a notification for this response! I guess because I didn't respond to that, they closed my ticket out!! Now I have to go through the whole process again!

To make matters worse, I went on the hosts page to leave him a review and saw that he's recently done this to someone else!! I can't leave a review now because it's been too long since the reservation. Any suggestions for how I should proceed from here?
