I woke up this morning to an email from Chase saying that my account was closed due to suspicious activity. When I tried to log into my account it told me the account is locked and I need to call a number (‭(877) 691-8086‬). When I spoke to the representative on the line (Fraud Department), she was very rude and not helpful at all. She said my account (checking and savings) are closed (after 10+ years of being a loyal customer) and she won’t tell me why because Chase can do whatever they want and they don’t owe me an explanation.

I’m at a loss for words here! I ended up going to a Chase branch and spoke to a banker and she told me that there’s nothing they can do and that she’s also shocked that this is happening. She also told me she had another client this week with the same issue and they weren’t able to help her.

It possibly has something to do with receiving unemployment. I have been receiving unemployment assistance since mid April, due to COVID and in May there was a fraudulent breach in the unemployment system in Washington state and other states in the US. I was not affected by this but I did have to confirm my identity with unemployment which was then approved and I began receiving payments to my checking account, until today. I was told I will receive a check with the remaining amount from my account once my account fully closes in 10 days and I can never open an account with Chase in my life.

I don’t understand why this is happening. I don’t know why my account was closed without an explanation. I was dealing with unemployment for five weeks in regards to fraud and now possibly because of that situation my bank account was closed. So I’m being punished for being a victim??? It’s unfortunate that my finances are unavailable to me until who knows when. This is my main checking and savings account that I rely on for everyday expenses and paying my bills. But also that I am being punished for something I have no control over. I feel worse than a criminal since I don’t even know the reason why I am being treated this way. Every time I have tried to reach out to someone at Chase, I was told off and kept getting the same answer.

I wanted to post this on Reddit to see if I have any legal rights as a consumer, due to the financial distress that I’m currently experiencing. Also if anyone else has experience with this or is currently dealing with the same situation.

This is my first time asking Reddit for help. So forgive me if this is confusing or I have typos.
