I realized after cleaning out my home that I regret so many of my larger purchases. Often times when buying something large, let's say $300+, I tend to "crack". My newish computer? Hate it, complete overkill. My mattress? Hurts my back. Cell phone? Been looking at that mistake for years. I don't even know why I bought a television, I've only used it maybe twice in 10 years.
I'm not sure if it's because I feel stressed to make an immediate decision, or if I am relying on the salesperson to help me decide, or if I truly just crack under pressure. I am so frugal and cautious with my daily expenses. I spend days mulling over a potential purchase, leaving items in my cart for months at a time while I debate. Then I go to pick up an appliance or something and destroy all my hard work. I have to buy some formal wear for my sisters wedding tomorrow and honestly I'm already nervous. I buy shoes second hand, rarely have things tailored, I know it will be pricey and I'm worried the sticker shock will send me into a spending spiral.
Does anyone else suffer from this? Do you just walk away and think it over? What if you need it same day? How can I avoid this guilt and regret?
