Potted flowers are usually cheaper and since they still have roots and dirt, can be placed into a pot or in the ground and can last for years, long past when the cut bunch of flowers would have died.
edit: disclaimer: this is assuming that your SO likes and can manage taking of plants. You should probably ask them first?
