I wrote a long explanation of what is going on with a trip we are planning, then realized most of it doesn't matter. The gist is the wife and I are wanting to save more money for a trip before we leave June 1st. She came up with this idea of a savings competition - the winner getting some kind of prize. Having a goal to save money made me realize how tasty PB and honey sandwiches are for lunch, and how I don't need those Monster Energy drinks I like so much, and how I didn't need to save that crappy 1989 Honda project I've had for years, and how I don't need to go out to dinner. I've pulled money out of my paycheck, sold things, cashed in cans (Oregon) just to try and put as much away as possible. I don't want to lose to my wife. Together in the last month we've saved almost $1100 that we realize would have gone to things that were unneeded, unnecessary, or just gotten rid of stuff that has been sitting around doing us no good. I've been browsing r/frugal for a while, but until this I didn't pay all that much attention to what was on here. Now I'm paying attention because I've got 25 more days to save and win a competition against my wife.
