I am in construction management, and I was recently promoted. Now have two people working under me. One is new to the company, and this particular part of the industry (also 8 years my senior), so I am providing lots of training, on top of my new responsibilities. Doing cost projections for my projects, I noticed a big bump in cost for a portion of my budget that corresponds to the cost code the people who report to me charge their time to. I thought I was being compensated well for my promotion, but the new employee is making $11/hr more than I am.

I am pretty upset about it, and I’m sure this happens to people more often than it should, but how did you handle a similar situation when bringing it up to upper management?
