We have an opportunity to move for 2+ years to the EU with some costs covered. We have two houses in the US, one paid off. Two cars. Two kids. Less possessions than the average American. We're thinking
- Sell everything that makes sense on eBay and craigslist
- Put in storage some things. (Is it insane to put them in the basement of on of our houses while renting it out?)
- We may be able to get some free storage in a barn at a relatives house
- Rent out the houses
- Move a minimum of things
- Can we get mail forwarded to Europe somehow?
- Close US credit cards?
- Not sure what all the taxes, healthcare and stuff will look like
Right now being a frugal person I'm freaking out at the losses on all our stuff from selling cars, small personal items... I mean we have a spice collection like any house does. I guess we donate or throw that out. It's not the end of the world but is kind of annoying.
I'm probably missing things to think about to - any advice appreciated.
