I work for the Federal govt as a GS employee.
A few weeks ago I noticed an error with my disabled vet status and started emailing HR. They reviewed my paperwork and relieved that a ton of my personnel file was wrong. Most of it was pretty simple.
However, they realized I was in the wrong retirement program. They had me FERS-RAE (requires employee to pay 3.1% to their retirement) when I should have been under FERS-FRAE (requires employee to contribute 4.4%).
Im still waiting for the NFC to tell me exactly what I owe and set up a plan to repay it. Luckily I’ve only been a fed for 10 months. But my rough estimate puts it around $1,100.
Is this something I will need to correct on my taxes? Anything else I need to be worried about other than just repaying the debt?
We also started reviewing everyone else’s SF-50 to make sure no one else is caught up in this.
