My background is in offensive cyber security. Naturally I had to look at the negative parts of the lottery system as they weren't made with security in mind.
The biggest rule when it comes protecting yourself is OPSEC (Operation Security). Stay low and under the radar. Don't even tell your toaster that you won.
If you paint a target on your back someone will shoot it.
A 6-digit or higher lottery prize is a PRETTY BIG FUCKING TARGET.
I find it idiotic that most states mandate you to publicly announce your name (even your face). That being said, stay as anonymous as possible if you ever win. Remember not only normal criminals have their eyes on you, some of the most dangerous cyber criminals will be glaring at you like a pack of extremely hungry wolves.
You'd be surprised how horrifyingly insecure most peoples' digital security is, even mine.
Get a lawyer, financial advisor, and a white hat hacker if you ever win.
I don't think I'd ever be able to sleep again if I ever won a lottery.
