Been working in Canada, last few years and have savings in CAD in my bank here in Canada. Now moving to the US. Would like to have these savings in USD in a US bank account ultimately. Any advice on how to go about this, so take minimum hit in bank transfer fees, exchange rate. Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated. Was in Canada on a work permit, will be in US as a permanent resident.
Was thinking the best approach may be to find a CAD account with a US bank and transfer CAD over to US bank (hopefully flat fee for wire transfer). Then when exchange get rates become favourable, convert CAD over to USD.
Don't need access to these funds immediately so if keeping in CAD makes sense somehow, open to that too.
Thank you in advance.
