So I’m currently employed, but have been applying for a different job. I got a call back and interviewed with the new company. They really like me, and want to make me an offer. They asked how much I currently make, and I said I made just under 100k. The truth is that I make 50k. The hiring manager says that they don’t see any issue with matching my 100k salary. I was pretty excited. But now I’m wondering if they reach out to my current employer, will they ask what I’m currently making?? If so, wouldn’t that ruin the relationship with my current employer, since they will know I’m job hunting, and also lose the new job since I lied about my salary??
I’m confused on how to handle this. I’m in Texas, and this is a sales position.
