Throwaway account. I am currently a Finance major heading into my Junior year. I have a full ride so no debt at all. I have the option of enrolling into a 5 year program in which I can choose to stay an extra year but will graduate with an MBA. However, this MBA will run me about ~50K. This program is barely top 100 in the country so I am concerned with spending money on something that will not even get me a nod from a hiring manager. I am in NYC so I really have 3 options which I am considering.
- Enroll in the 5 year program and graduate with an MBA and ~$50,000 in debt.
- Graduate with a degree in Finance and apply to NYU Stern which is an extremely competitive program and spend an additional 2 years studying and go 100K+ in debt to get an MBA.
- Graduate with a degree in Finance and begin work debt free.
Basically it stems down whether getting an MBA is worth it in this situation and if so, is the networking from NYU and debt worth it? I have done my due diligence and realize that an MBA is not what it once was and it seems like almost everyone has one. What would you do in this case? Appreciate all the input.
